Our Team
Carol Reeder
Mrs. Carol is a lifelong Hampton Roads resident. She has taught for over 30 years, and she enjoys seeing students grow in Christ, succeed academically, and love learning. She received her undergraduate degree in education from Christopher Newport University and her master’s in educational leadership from American Intercontinental University. She is a state certified teacher and received certification in counseling from ACBC. Carol and her husband Dan actively serve at Coastal Church.
Kenzie Smith
Mrs. Kenzie has served students in different locations and in various forms since she was in high school. Her passion for students both educationally and spiritually has been a driving force for her career as a tutor and teacher. Mrs. Kenzie obtained her degree from the University of Guam before moving to Virginia in 2021. She proudly taught first grade with Hampton City Schools before joining the Coastal School family! As a homeschooler herself, she is uniquely equipped to partner with Coastal School to individualize education, empower students to grow spiritually, and be a light to the world!
Nakiah Reiter
Mrs. Nakiah moved to the Hampton Roads area in December of 2015 from her native Washington State. She has taught and worked with children for over 20 years. She graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2004 with her Bachelor’s degree. She delights in building lasting relationships and empowering young people to grow socially, academically, and spiritually.
Rhoda Alvarez
Rhoda Alvarez was a homeschool mom and schooled her sons from K-12. She initially taught in the public school for 3 years, then for soldiers in the BSEP program, and at a private Christian school for 7 years. She has tutored and currently tutors foster children through a non-profit. She was a military wife and lived in several states including Alaska. Rhoda and her family served a year as missionaries in Uganda. Her passion is to teach children to have wonder in life and to be dedicated lifelong learners. She loves to guide children from where they are to strive and achieve their goals. She loves Jesus and want children to have a love for the Bible and to grow spiritually as they learn.
Naomi Kennedy
Mrs. Naomi grew up in an Air Force family and calls Florida “home.” She has lived in Hampton Roads since 2019 and spent five years teaching Health and PE. She earned her Bachelor’s in Public Health Education from Utah State University and her Master’s in Health Promotion from Liberty University. Her passion for students’ well-being—both academically and spiritually—has shaped her calling as an educator.
After much prayer, the Lord placed on her heart a desire to teach and disciple students in a more intimate, Christ-centered setting. She deeply values the role of education within the home and is honored to partner with families in this mission. The Lord led her to Coastal School, and she is excited to see all He has in store!
Medy Cook
Medy has been a Virginian for almost 50 years. The mother of four adult sons, and two grandchildren, she homeschooled during the early years of her sons’ education. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Virginia Tech, and later, achieved her Master’s degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. For several years, she worked for Freekind, an organization advocating and serving women that have been trafficked. Through various experiences, Medy gained understanding of mental health needs, and the deeper need for Christ. In the last few years, she worked as a substitute in the York County Public Schools which gave her insight into teaching children in the school setting. Now she is excited for the opportunity as tutor in the Coastal School, to help children grow academically, to help them find their God-given strengths, and to nurture them emotionally and spiritually.
